Land Clearing Services in Lakeland, FL

Overgrown lot, wooded acreage or an old homesite that needs to go back to bare ground? DBR Construction clears land across Polk County for new homes, ADUs, additions and commercial projects, and leaves it ready for grading.

How Land Clearing Works on a Polk County Lot

Land clearing is the removal of trees, brush, stumps, roots and debris so a site can be surveyed, graded and built on. On most Polk County lots that means taking out the trees inside the building area, grinding or pulling stumps, grubbing out roots that would rot under a slab, and hauling it all away so the ground is clean for the next phase.

Before any equipment shows up, we walk the property with you, mark what stays and what goes, and check for protected trees, wetlands and setback lines. Polk County and the cities of Lakeland, Winter Haven, Auburndale and Bartow each have their own tree removal and land alteration rules, and some lots need a permit or tree survey before clearing can start. We sort that out up front so the job does not get stopped halfway through.

DBR Construction is a Lakeland-based Florida Certified General Contractor (CGC #1531838). We also build homes, additions and commercial spaces, so we clear with the build in mind: driveway access, utility routes, where the pad will sit and which trees are worth keeping for shade. Land Clearing Services

What we clear, and what we leave behind.

Lot & Homesite Clearing

Full clearing of residential lots for custom and spec homes, including the driveway path, building pad and septic or utility areas.

Selective Clearing & Tree Removal

Thinning, underbrushing and selective tree removal that opens up a property while keeping the healthy oaks and pines you want to save.

Stump Removal & Grubbing

Stump grinding or full extraction and root grubbing, so buried wood does not rot and leave soft spots under a slab or driveway.

Debris Hauling & Disposal

Vegetation and debris loaded and hauled off site for proper disposal, so you are left with an open, clean lot instead of piles to deal with.

Commercial & Acreage Clearing

Clearing for commercial pads, parking areas and larger parcels across Polk County, coordinated with your engineer's site plan.

Ready for Grading

Once the lot is clear, our crew moves straight into grading and pad preparation, with no hand-off to a second contractor.

Common Land Clearing Questions

Cost depends on the size of the lot, how many trees and how much brush there is, whether stumps are ground or fully removed, how far debris has to be hauled and how easy the site is to reach with equipment. A lightly overgrown city lot and a heavily wooded acre are very different jobs, so we walk the property and give you a written, itemized estimate at no charge.

Often, yes. Lakeland, Polk County and the surrounding cities regulate the removal of certain trees, especially larger specimen trees, trees in required setbacks and anything near wetlands. Clearing for new construction is usually reviewed as part of the building or site permit. The rules differ by jurisdiction, so we confirm what applies to your parcel before any trees come down.

We take care of both. Anywhere a slab, driveway or footing will go, stumps and major roots need to come out completely, because buried wood rots and leaves voids that cause settling. In yard areas that will stay as lawn, grinding the stump below grade is usually enough. We will recommend the right approach for each part of your lot.

Yes. Before clearing starts we walk the lot with you and mark the trees you want to keep. We then work around them and keep heavy equipment off their root zones as much as the site allows, because a protected oak can still decline if its roots are crushed during construction.

Most residential lots can be cleared in a few days to about a week, depending on tree density, stump removal and debris hauling. Heavily wooded acreage, permit review and wet weather can add time. Your estimate will include a realistic schedule.

It is strongly recommended. A boundary survey shows exactly where your property lines and setbacks are, so nothing gets cleared on a neighbor's land or in an area that has to stay natural. If you are building, your surveyor will also stake the house location, which tells us exactly what needs to be cleared.

Cleared With the Build in Mind

A lot can be cleared fast and still be cleared wrong. Stumps left in the pad area, roots that rot under a slab or a driveway path that does not line up with the house all cost money later. Because DBR builds on the kinds of sites we clear, we plan the clearing around the house or building that is coming, then grade and prepare the pad ourselves.

Tell us about your property and we will come out, walk it with you and put a written estimate in your hands.
