Concrete Work in Polk County

Concrete Contractor in Lakeland, FL

Driveways, patios, slabs, sidewalks and equipment pads, formed, reinforced and finished by a licensed general contractor that also prepares the ground underneath.

What Makes Concrete Last in Central Florida?

Most concrete problems start below the surface. Sandy Polk County soil has to be graded and compacted, the slab needs the right thickness and reinforcement for what it will carry, and control joints have to be cut so the concrete cracks where it is supposed to instead of across the middle of your driveway. We handle the subgrade, forming, reinforcement, pour, finish and curing as one job.

We pour full driveways and driveway replacements, patio and lanai slabs, sidewalks and walkways, slabs for garages, sheds and additions, and pads for AC units and generators. If old concrete has to come out first, we break it up and haul it away. Where the city or county requires a permit, such as for a driveway apron that meets the street, we pull it.

DBR Construction is a Lakeland-based Florida Certified General Contractor (CGC #1531838). Because we also do site grading and pad preparation, the ground under your slab is prepared by the same company that pours it. Call 1 (863) 602-4200.

Common Concrete Questions

Residential driveways are commonly about 4 inches thick, and areas that will carry heavier vehicles such as RVs or work trucks are often poured thicker. We size the slab and reinforcement to what will actually drive on it.

You can usually walk on new concrete within a day or two and drive on it after about a week, depending on weather. Concrete keeps gaining strength for about a month, so we recommend keeping heavy loads off it until then.

All concrete shrinks as it cures, which causes cracking. Properly placed control joints, a compacted base and the right reinforcement keep those cracks in the joints where they belong and limit settling.

Often, yes, especially for the apron where a driveway meets the street or sidewalk. Requirements vary between Polk County and each city, and we pull whatever permit your project needs.

Yes. We break out the old concrete, haul it away, regrade and compact the base and pour a new driveway with proper joints and drainage.

A good-looking pour on a poorly prepared base will crack and settle. We grade and compact the subgrade, set forms to the right slope for drainage, place reinforcement and cut control joints before the concrete can crack on its own. Then we give it time to cure before it takes traffic.
