Deck Builder in Lakeland, FL
A deck built to handle Florida's sun, rain and termites. DBR Construction designs, permits and builds new decks and full deck replacements across Polk County.
What Is the Best Decking for Florida?
Pressure-treated pine is the most affordable decking and works well when it is rated for the exposure and kept sealed. Composite and PVC decking cost more up front but resist rot, termites, splinters and fading, and they need far less maintenance in Florida's sun and rain. Whichever surface you choose, the frame underneath is what determines how long a deck lasts, so we build it from pressure-treated lumber with proper footings, hangers and fasteners rated for treated wood.
Most decks in Polk County need a permit, especially decks attached to the house or raised off the ground. An attached deck needs a properly flashed ledger so water does not get into the wall, and decks more than 30 inches above grade need guardrails that meet code. We handle the design, permit and inspections, then build stairs, railings and any skirting or lighting you want.

Common Deck Questions
Most decks do, particularly decks attached to the house or raised above the ground. Requirements vary between Polk County and each city, and we pull the permit and handle the inspections.
Composite costs more up front but needs much less maintenance and resists rot, termites and splinters. Pressure-treated wood costs less but needs regular cleaning and sealing to hold up in Florida's sun and rain.
A well-built, maintained pressure-treated deck often lasts many years, and composite decking typically lasts longer with less upkeep. In both cases, a properly built frame is what determines the life of the deck.
Most residential decks are built within one to a few weeks once the permit is approved, depending on the size and complexity of the design.
Yes. We can plan the deck to carry an aluminum patio cover or screen enclosure, either at the same time or later.
Deck boards get replaced. The frame is supposed to last. We set footings to the right depth, use joist hangers and fasteners rated for treated lumber, flash the ledger where the deck meets the house and space the joists for the decking you choose, so the deck stays solid and level for years.
