Drywall & Water Damage in Polk County

Drywall Replacement and Flood Cuts in Lakeland, FL

After a flood, leak or storm, wet drywall has to come out fast. DBR Construction handles flood cuts and full drywall changeouts across Polk County, then rebuilds the walls so you can get back to normal.

What Is a Flood Cut?

A flood cut is a straight, level cut through drywall a set distance above the waterline, so the wet drywall and insulation below it can be removed and the wall cavity can dry out. It is commonly made somewhere between one and four feet up the wall, depending on how high the water reached and how far it wicked up. Removing the wet material quickly helps prevent mold growing inside the walls and exposes any damage to framing, wiring and plumbing. In Florida's humidity, wet drywall left in place can start growing mold within a couple of days, even if it looks fine on the surface.

Once the walls are open and the structure is dry, we replace insulation, hang new drywall, tape, finish, prime and paint, and reinstall baseboards and trim. For a full drywall changeout, such as after a major leak or during a renovation of an older home, we replace entire walls and ceilings so every surface matches. We coordinate with water mitigation and drying companies, and we can document the work for your insurance claim.

Common Water Damage & Drywall Questions

It depends on how high the water reached and how far moisture wicked up the drywall. Cuts are commonly made somewhere between one and four feet up the wall, high enough to get above all of the wet material.

As soon as possible. In Florida's heat and humidity, mold can start growing on wet drywall and insulation within a day or two, so wet material should be removed quickly.

It depends on the cause and your policy. Sudden water damage, such as a burst pipe, is often covered by homeowners insurance, while rising floodwater usually requires separate flood insurance. We document the damage and the repairs for your claim.

Florida requires mold remediation to be done by licensed mold professionals. When mold is present, we coordinate with a licensed remediation company and rebuild once the area has been cleared.

Yes. We match wall and ceiling textures so the repaired areas blend with the rest of the house.

Dry It Out, Then Build It Back

The worst thing you can do after water damage is close the walls up too soon. We make sure the cavities are dry before anything new goes in, check the framing and bottom plates, and replace insulation along with the drywall. Then we finish the walls to match the rest of the house so you cannot tell where the cut was.
